A postdoctoral scientist opportunity is available in the IARC Section of Environment and Radiation, to contribute to various cancer research studies in Africa, primarily the African Breast Cancer – Disparities in Outcomes cohort ABC-DO.Application Deadline: 22nd August 2020
About the Award: The ABC-DO cohort investigates multi-dimensional factors contributing to low breast cancer survival across five sub-Saharan African countries. This cohort of 2200 women with breast cancer, initiated in 2014, will be followed for a further two years.
The selected candidate will interact closely with Dr Valerie McCormack and with the teams across sub-Saharan Africa. The current postdoctoral opportunity will involve analyses and drafting of manuscripts based on existing ABC-DO data, e.g. on quality-of-life, survival analyses, social
inequalities, treatment adherence and adverse events. The candidate will also be involved in fieldwork co-ordination, travel when permitting, grant writing and reporting to funders.

Eligibility: The successful candidate would ideally have:
- a PhD in epidemiology or biostatistics
- strong statistical analytical and programming skills ideally in STATA
- excellent English language communication skills
- experience in cancer research, survival analysis or research in Africa

Value of Award: The current IARC postdoctoral stipend is €2,820 per month. The cost of travel, and in certain circumstances for dependants, will be met, a dependant’s allowance paid, and health insurance covered. Postdoctoral scientists at IARC have access to a wide spectrum of scientific disciplines and to a unique network of collaborators across the world.
Duration of Award: The opportunity is initially for a period of 12 months.
