ORGANISATION DESCRIPTION

Hope for children International (HOCI), is a Youth centered community based Development Organization. Officially recognized as a registered NGO in Cameroon on December 20, 2014 with registration number 09.G.3/14/1/vol.8/119/OAPP. HOCI uses the power of sports to educate, inspire and mobilize youths and communities to stop the spread of HIV, alcohol, drug use, unemployment and awaken talents, to ensure a smooth transition into responsible adulthood. POSITION DESCRIPTION

Working under the direct supervision of the CEO, the Project Specialist volunteer will primarily be responsible to carry out research in the fields of intervention of the organization and design projects to donors for possible funding. He / She will carry out research and findings on different funding opportunities and call for proposals for projects that fall within the domain of activity of the organization. The project specialist will proceed with the designing of project proposals and submit in response to open calls for proposals or to specific donors.

Principal responsibilities
  • Carry out research on different open calls for proposals available and share with the team
  • Use research data and statistics to prepare, concept notes and project proposals from open calls and submit on behalf of the organization
  • Integrate the implementation of outreach activities related to in-house projects and assist in the monitoring and evaluation process of these activities
  • Engage and create good relationship with other local organizations in the same domain of activity as HOCI
  • Develop and implement fund raising strategies for HOCI.
  • Coordinate with management in project development and design
  • Responsible for overall managing and leading the different projects implementation.
  • Maintaining and monitoring project plans, project schedules, budgets and expenditures
  • Preparing necessary presentation materials for meetings.
  • Prepare project and activity budgets

  • Organizing, attending and participating in stakeholder meetings.
  • Create a project management calendar for fulfilling each goal and objective.
  • Develop Project Plan and consultation with the team, with the assigning of roles and responsibilities against the activities of the project as per approved proposal
  • Ensure activities are implemented according to plans and budgets, or organizations requirements and that activities are executed in line with acceptable quality standards in ways that are responsive to communities’ needs
  • Regularly monitor potential risks, and implementation challenges and, together with all project staffs and other partners towards proactively seeking solutions
Secondary Responsibilities
  • Assist in the coordination of outreach activities organized
  • Participate in all training sessions both internal and external
  • Assist in the preparation of activity budgets
  • Write activity reports
  • Attend all coordination meetings
  • Prepare end of week report on task carried out and work plan for the week.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong time management skills and ability to identify priorities
  • Good research and analytical skills
  • Good report writing skills
  • Good knowledge on project proposal design and implementation
  • Good knowledge of fundraising strategies
  • Good communication and public speaking skills
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to coordinate various responsibilities and prioritize conflicting demands and deadlines
  • Strong capacity to work independently and as part of a team
  • Must be duty conscious and respect deadlines
  • Smart and fast learner
Minimum Qualifications Required:
  • At least six months of experience as an intern, volunteer or employee in a local or international NGO
  • At least a bachelor’s degree in development studies, project management, business and finance or any other relevant field.
  • Must be computer literate in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • English language fluency (reading, writing, speaking) and basic knowledge in French
For a start, this is a volunteer position. The incumbent will sign a volunteer contract. However, the duties and responsibilities may be modifies if HOCI receives funding for a project during the volunteers period of service. The volunteer MAY be directly recruited to participate in the implementation of any project that receives funding during the period of service. The volunteer will benefit from preliminary trainings on research and project design and several other related aspects from in-house experts as well represent the organization at workshops, conferences, seminars, etc.

Volunteer Period: 6 months volunteer period renewable once

Remuneration: Considering that it is a volunteer position, HOCI does not have any budget allocated as a salary. However, the volunteer will receive a monthly allowance to cover cost related to work.

Deadline for Applications: Applications are due by 30 April 2021

Work Venue- Apart from Coordinating outreach activities, the volunteer will work FROM HOME when not on outdoor activities. The Volunteer will attend all meetings and trainings organized at HOCI head office.
