Key Responsibilities
- Monitor legal cases, disputes resolutions and preparation of contracts as per local laws.
- Provide legal assistance to Human Resources team for employment matters (from contract drafting throughout the entire employee lifecycle).
- Act as the owner of company's intellectual property assets such as trademarks, copyrights, patents, brand names (registrations & renewals).
- Prepare & send legal notices to clients and Suppliers, filing of legal or civil cases against debtors defaulting payments.
- Control compliance vis-à-vis local regulations for exportation of cocoa.
- Provide counsel and assistance to IT Department on software licensing, anti-infringement and anti-piracy compliances.
- Collaborate with stakeholders and departments to educate teams on compliance, legal and data protection requirements and to continuously promote a culture of compliance, integrity and data protection.
- Identify and implement legal department tools to streamline new or existing practices, as well as manage design, rollout, and training for new systems.
- Develop and enforce processes and policies to manage outside counsel usage and spend.
- . Collaborate with cross-functional teams including sales, support service, business development, regulatory, IT, and finance, as well as various business units.
- Organize and maintain all cases files, and information whether electronic or paper, in accordance with Cameroon law.
- Liaise with external lawyers.
- Conduct legal researches to obtain documentation regarding health insurance, social security, medical records, and medical providers.
- Draft and review letters or contracts to ensure adherence to all legal requirements.
- Collect, arrange, and preserve evidence and other useful documents required for a legal. proceeding.
- Work closely with the country head to select outside law firms and negotiate alternative fee arrangements.
- Manage billing matters, insurances and other claims.
- Liaise with Legal teams in other markets (countries) for alignment on strategy.
- Master's degree in Private Law.
- 06 years of experience in a Law Firm or a corporate Legal Department, ideally in Logistics, Commodities or Manufacturing.
- Mastery of OHADA laws & regulations
- Ethics & Integrity.
- Excellent interpersonal & negotiation skills.
- Excellent organizational skills & attention to detail.
- Self-starter, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to generate insights to influence decision-making and action plans.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills (French & English).
- Able to thrive in a fast-paced environment and successfully manage multiple deadlines.
- Proficient with MS Office suite (Word, Excel, Power point), and case management software.
- Tech-savvy and well-versed in legal enterprise software, tools, and applications.
- Proficient in legal spend and matter management tools such as Simple Legal, E-billing, Dillitrust.
