ABOUT CLEAN AIR AFRICA 

CLEAN-Air (Africa) is a partnership between public health experts from the UK, Ghana, Kenya and Cameroon, aiming to provide policy-relevant evidence to address the global challenge of lack of access to clean household energy for the 4 billion people of the World’s population.

RESEARCH ASSISTANT/DATA MANAGEMENT JOB SUMMARY

 In this position, you will play a key role in monitoring clinical and community studies to ensure compliance with procedures and protocols. You will work under the supervision of principal investigator who leads research projects. You are responsible for assisting him in a number of tasks that support the research activities. Data Manager is responsible for meticulous data management for multiple ongoing research studies, including: database development and maintenance, initiating processes for regular database updates and quality control functions, data abstraction, interpretation and organization. 

RESEARCH ASSISTANT/DATA MANAGEMENT DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 
  • Conduct literature reviews 
  • Maintain accurate records of interviews, safeguarding the confidentiality of subjects, as necessary 
  • Supervise undergraduate students working on the research project 
  • Summarize project results 
  • Prepare progress reports 
  • Prepare other articles, reports and presentations 
  • Write and contribute to publications 
  • Develop research protocols 
  • Contribute to the design of protocols, which includes the methodology, analysis, quality control and reporting sections for both quantitative and qualitative data.
  • Develop assessment and evaluation tools 
  • Create presentation slides and posters to help researchers present findings  conduct data quality assessment in the study databases, generate listing of errors or incoherence, send data queries to study sites and supervise the data correction process 
  • Oversee and coordinate the process from data capture to data sharing 
  • Perform statistical analyses using appropriate statistical tools for planned data presentations and communications related to a given study 
  • Liaise with study coordinator to follow-up data errors, discrepancies, and missing information for ongoing data cleaning
  •  Maintain the integrity, security and data backup of the study database
REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS 

Education PhD in biostatistics, Epidemiology or in Public Health Masters in biostatistics, Epidemiology or public health 

Working experience 
  • Knowledge of research methods. 
  • Minimum 4 years’ experience as research coordinator in a project 
  • Experience in monitoring of biomedical and operational research data is mandatory.
  • Prior experience in article writing and submitting in peer review journals. 
Languages 
  • English and French are the working languages for the project. 
  • Fluency in oral and written English is obligatory 
Additional skills 
  • Self-directed and able to work independently and collaboratively with colleagues 
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, work under pressure, and manage time efficiently
  • Excellent teamwork and coordination skills. 
  • Good computing skills, Excel, Word, PowerPoint 
ASSESSMENT
