Position Summary
The Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Intern is responsible for assisting the MEL Officer for West and Central Africa in designing developing and maintaining appropriate and viable monitoring, evaluation, accountability and learning systems that are in line with the AWF global MEL procedures and to ensure that AWF’s projects and programs perform as planned. The role requires self-motivated individual, capable of working with minimum supervision, high numerical accuracy and demonstrate high levels of integrity, confidentiality and good work ethics. Regular domestic travels are required.
Key Responsibilities
- Support MEAL Team: Assist the MEL Officer in overseeing MEL activities across Landscapes and Country Offices.
- Filing and Documentation: Maintain a proper filing system for MEL reports and data. Ensure all documents are easily accessible.
- Data Compilation, Analysis Review and Reporting: Consolidate, clean and analyse data on programme implementation and indicators for internal and external reporting. Review entered data in databases to ensure consistency standards. Follow up on any quality control issues.
- Report Preparation: Assist in the initial drafting and review of MEL factsheet reports, memos, and other narrative reports. Liaise with field teams to ensure all queries are addressed.
- Lessons Learned: Support the identification and documentation of lessons learned and best practices.
- Data Collection: Assist in the development and implementation of data collection tools and methodologies (e.g., surveys, focus group discussions, key informant interviews).
- Monitoring and Evaluation: Participate in the monitoring and evaluation of ongoing projects, including baseline, mid-term, post-distribution monitoring and endline assessments.
- Database Maintenance: Assist in the management of internal projects, Landscapes and CO’s databases and dashboard ensuring that relevant data on the implementation of projects are captured and organized.
- Field Visits: Assist the MEL Officer during field monitoring and evaluation visits or Result Oriented Missions (ROM) to monitor technical compliance and timely execution of project.
- Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Supervisor.
- Bachelor’s Degree (BsC) in Social Sciences, Statistics or Development Studies or Conservation related subject, or equivalent standard of education.
- Previous experience in Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning roles, preferably within conservation program context is an advantage.
- Advanced knowledge of monitoring, evaluation and learning as well as in-depth qualitative and quantitative research.
- You are proficient in data analysis tools such as Excel, R, Tableau, SPSS, Survey123 or similar software.
- You work independently, accurately, with an eye for detail and enjoy working in a team (also working with virtual teams).
- You are able to maintain high standards of accuracy in data collection and reporting.
- You feel confident in using MS Office (especially Word, Excel (eg Pivot Table), Outlook, Teams) and familiar with ArcGIS .
- You work proactively and conscientiously, and you have strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- You have strong communication and organizational skills.
- Language Skills: You are proficient in English and French (ability to understand, summarise and translate (from French to English) donor documents, ability to join external meetings/discussions in both languages
- You are willingly to learn and adapt to new challenges and environments.
- You are culturally aware and able to work effectively in various cultural environments.
