Job Title: Research/Technical Director 
Location: Yaoundé, Cameroon 

EVIHDAF is an international research and development organization headquartered in Yaoundé, Cameroon, which serves the West and Central Africa region. We bring together a multidisciplinary team of English and French speaking researchers who combine innovative thinking and rigorous approaches with the ability to think globally, and the expertise to act local. Regional and global consultants, some connected to universities, complement our team. We currently have a USAID-funded project office in Niamey, Niger, and a Data Unit satellite office in Parakou, Benin. 

EVIHDAF offers comprehensive services in Research, monitoring, evaluation and learning (RMEL); Data analytics and survey research, Research capacity strengthening, and Social and behavior change (SBC) research. Our priority focus areas include Reproductive, maternal, newborn, child and adolescent health (RMNCAH); Maternal, infant and young child nutrition (MIYCN); Malaria and infectious diseases; Humanitarian/vulnerable context; and Support to service delivery. We are looking for a Research/Technical Director with demonstrated technical and leadership capabilities in project design, implementation, and evaluation; publications and research utilization; and proposal development, in the field of RMNCAH and MIYCN, and other related topical areas (malaria and infectious diseases, support to service delivery). The selected candidate will work from our office in Cameroon, though remote work could be considered. The position requires flexibility, strong organizational skills, and willingness to work under pressure, and involves both local and international travel. 

Major Responsibilities: 
  • Oversee ongoing projects, prepare/review work plans, monitor the implementation of research activities, and leading engagement with national and international stakeholders.
  • Lead publications and support the research team in publications and research utilization (research briefs, working papers, peer-reviewed articles and conference presentations).
  • Lead proposal development efforts to expand project portfolio, with focus on USAID and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF).
  • Supersize, mentor and build the capacity research and communications staff, and contribute to identifying and recruiting new staff to meet our evolving needs.
  • Participate in relevant technical working groups at national and global levels. 
Basic qualifications 
  • PhD in demography, sociology, public health, the social sciences, or a related field.
  • At least ten (10) years of research and publications experience in the areas of RMNCAH and MIYCN.
  • Excellent scientific writing and presentation skills, with good track records in peer-review publications and conference presentations.
  • Familiarity with SBC research, gender/social norms, individual and community agency and empowerment.
  • Experience in the design and implementation of a variety of quantitative and qualitative research activities, including data analysis, reporting and dissemination.
  • Experience leading successful global health proposal development efforts.
  • Strong interpersonal communication, writing, and oral skills in both English and French.
  • Ability to succinctly communicate complex research rationales, designs, and learning both verbally and in writing.
  • Proficiency in using computer systems and software such as the Microsoft Office Suite and data analysis software packages (qualitative or quantitative). 
Preferred Qualifications 
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage an interdisciplinary team, interact with and lead a broad range of governmental and non-governmental stakeholders and institutions across countries and teams, and foster data use for policy and programmatic decision-making.
  • Proven familiarity with US-funded and projects and ability to effectively coordinate with U.S. government agencies, and other technical organizations.
  • Experience working in countries in the West and Central Africa region.
  • Full professional proficiency in English, and at least mid-level proficiency in French.
