Benefits of the UBC Public Scholars Award in Canada 2026-27:
- Recipients can receive awards of up to CAD $10,000.
- PSI Scholars in good standing are eligible to apply separately for a one-time renewal award of up to CAD $10,000 for a second year.
- The funding can be used for research expenses, professional development, or travel related to scholarly work.
- The award may also be used as a student stipend if the student’s current funding source does not support the alternative project or scholarly activities.
Eligibility of the UBC Public Scholars Award in Canada 2026-27:
- The candidate must be enrolled in a UBC doctoral program such as PhD, EdD, or DMA, including part-time PhD students.
- Students from both UBC Vancouver and UBC Okanagan campuses can apply.
- Applicants must have completed no more than 48 months of doctoral study as of 31 August 2026.
- Applicants must be registered in a UBC doctoral program as of 1 September 2026.
- Applicants in their 6th year (48 to 60 months of doctoral study) will be considered only in exceptional circumstances and should receive approval from the PSI before applying.
How to apply for the UBC Public Scholars Award in Canada:
- The candidates have to apply online.
- The candidates have to download the PSI Fellowship Application form first, complete it, and then upload it.
- The application files and links will be available on the PSI website during the application period.
- The candidates have to upload their Tri-agency CV or an existing Vanier-Banting CV as part of their PSI Fellowship application.
- Candidates who already have a Vanier-Banting CV can still use it. Otherwise, they must prepare a new Tri-agency CV according to the relevant agency guidelines.
- A mandatory supervisor letter of support must be submitted through the link provided on the PSI application page under “Application Procedures.” Optional collaborator support letters may also be submitted.
- The recommendation or support letters must include the referee’s signature, which can be electronic or digital.
