About the D-Prize Challenge

D-Prize funds new organizations that distribute proven, evidence-based poverty solutions rather than inventing new ones. The goal is simple: take interventions that already work and get them to the people who need them most, then grow the organization to reach thousands or even millions.

The challenge is designed for early-stage entrepreneurs. It rewards those who can turn a two-page idea into a functioning venture with real impact on the ground, particularly across Africa and other low- and middle-income regions.

Eligibility

The competition is aimed primarily at new organizations. Most awardees are first-time entrepreneurs who have not yet launched or raised outside funding.

• Applicants from low- and middle-income countries are especially encouraged.
• Organizations with more than 18 months of full-time operations, or that have raised more than $30,000 USD, are typically not supported.
• Existing organizations are considered only if their core focus is distributing an existing, evidence-based poverty intervention.

Entrepreneurs across Africa building ventures for social impact may also be interested in the Award Leadership Program for African Women in Science, which supports women driving change in their fields.

Selection Process

Round 2	The top 5% of entrepreneurs answer short written questions, with two weeks to respond.
Final Round	Top entrepreneurs complete phone and email interviews. The top 1% receive up to $20,000.
