About the World Bank Internship Program

As an intern, you will work at the heart of development, sharing new ideas, innovative perspectives, and extensive research experience. You will collaborate with project teams to advance our vision of a world free of poverty on a livable planet. Additionally, you will develop your skills, build a strong professional network, and invest in your career development journey.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for candidates with an interest in operations and support functions. Internship opportunities depend on the organization’s needs and usually include students in the following fields:
  • Economics,
  • Finance,
  • Human development (public health, education, nutrition, and population),
  • Social sciences (anthropology, sociology),
  • Agriculture,
  • Environment,
  • Engineering,
  • Urban planning,
  • Natural resource management,
  • Private sector development, and
  • Corporate support (accounting, communication, human resources, information technology, and finance).

What Do We Offer?

In addition to providing exceptional professional development opportunities, we pay interns on an hourly basis. The World Bank pays all interns an hourly salary and, if applicable, a travel allowance of up to $3,000, at the discretion of the manager. This travel allowance covers only transportation expenses (plane ticket) to or from the city of assignment. Interns are responsible for their own accommodation.

Most internship positions are based in Washington, DC, with some opportunities in the Bank's local offices, depending on operational needs.

What Are the Eligibility Criteria?

  • To be eligible for the World Bank Internship Program, you must:
  • Hold a bachelor's degree,
  • Be enrolled in a full-time master's or doctoral program, and
  • Be proficient in English.
Knowledge of other languages, such as French, Spanish, Russian, Arabic, Portuguese, and Chinese, is an asset. Strong computer skills and other technical skills will also enhance your application.

What is the Application Process?

  • Applications will be accepted online from January 15, 2025, to February 12, 2025. Links to available opportunities will be accessible starting January 15, 2025.
You will need to upload your:
  • Curriculum Vitae,
  • Cover Letter, and
  • Proof of Enrollment in a master’s or doctoral program.
Once your application is submitted, you will not be able to make any changes. You will receive a confirmation email with an application number.

When will You know if You’ve been Selected?

You will be notified before the end of March 2025 if you are invited for an interview. Final selections will be made in April 2025, and the new group of interns will start in early May 2025. The internship period runs from May to August.
