Categories of National Identity Card Applications and Required Documents

1. Renewal of a National Identity Card

For individuals seeking to renew their expired NIC, the following documents are required:

  • A photocopy of the birth certificate, birth certificate extract, judgment in lieu of a birth certificate, or family record book signed by the competent authorities.
  • The expired national identity card.
  • A photocopy of the marriage certificate (for married women).
  • A document proving occupation (if applicable).

2. First-Time Application for a National Identity Card

Applicants obtaining a National Identity Card for the first time must provide:

  • A certified copy of the birth certificate, birth certificate extract, supplementary birth certificate judgment, or family record book signed by the competent authorities.
  • A certified copy of the marriage certificate (for married women).
  • Proof of occupation (if applicable).
  • A nationality certificate signed by the President of the Court of First Instance of the place of issuance.

3. Replacement of a Lost, Stolen, or Damaged National Identity Card

In case of loss, theft, or damage to an NIC, the applicant must present:

  • A certificate of declaration of loss, theft, or damage issued by a National Security Service. This document should contain the full name, date and place of birth, filiation of the declarant, as well as the number and reference of the office that issued the lost or damaged NIC.
  • A copy of the lost, stolen, or damaged NIC.
  • A copy of the birth certificate, birth certificate extract, judgment in lieu of a birth certificate, or family record book signed by the competent authorities.

 

4. Name Correction or Change on the National Identity Card

Individuals seeking corrections or name changes on their NIC must provide:

  • A certified copy of the birth certificate, birth certificate extract, supplementary birth certificate judgment, or family record book signed by the competent authorities.
  • A certified copy of the decree authorizing the name change or correction.
  • A certified copy of the marriage certificate (for married women) or an authenticated divorce certificate, if applicable.
  • Proof of occupation (if applicable).

5. Change of Parentage on the National Identity Card

If an applicant has undergone a legal change in filiation, they must submit:

  • The authenticated extract of the judgment establishing the change of filiation.
  • The old national identity card.
  • Proof of occupation (if applicable).

6. Reinstatement of a National Identity Card

For applicants whose nationality has been reinstated, the following documents are required:

  • A certified copy of the birth certificate, birth certificate extract, judgment in lieu of a birth certificate, or family record book signed by the competent authorities.
  • A certified copy of the reinstatement decree.
  • A certified copy of the marriage certificate (for married women).
  • Proof of occupation (if applicable).
  • Bulletin No. 3 of the special criminal record.

7. National Identity Card for Naturalized Foreigners

Foreigners who have obtained Cameroonian nationality must provide:

  • A certified copy of the birth certificate.
  • A certified copy of the naturalization decree.
  • A certified copy of the marriage certificate (for married women).
  • Proof of occupation (if applicable).
  • Bulletin No. 3 of the special criminal record.
