Job Title: Accounting and Financial Management Intern

Location: Yaoundé, Melen, Behind National Polytechnic

Stipend: Monthly transport and feeding allowance will be provided

Duration: 06 months (with possibility of extension)

Expected Start Date: 18 August 2025

Liaises with: Senior Accountant, Finance & Administration Officer, Programs Director

Background

The Integrated Research Education and Support Group (IRES) is a Cameroon-based nonprofit organization committed to advancing research, health education, and strengthening health systems. Within the framework of her mission, IRES is offering an internship opportunity in Accounting and Financial management for young graduates seeking hands-on professional experience in the nonprofit and public health project management sector.

Internship Focus Areas

• The Accounting Intern will contribute to the following activities:
• Maintaining accounting journals and recording supporting documents
• Filing and archiving financial documents
• Assisting in the preparation of financial reports
• Supporting project budget management
• Processing payments and conducting bank reconciliations
• Following up on advances and expense justifications
• Applying donor financial and accounting procedures Participating in internal and external audits

Skills and Competencies to be Acquired

1. Proficiency in general and analytical accounting principles 
2. Use of accounting software (SAGE, Excel, QuickBooks, etc.)
3. Understanding financial management procedures in NGOs 
4. Budget planning and financial tracking of health projects 
5. Accuracy in processing and filing financial data
6. Professional communication and teamwork
7. Preparation and presentation of financial reports
8. Exposure to donor compliance requirements (Global Fund, PEPFAR, etc.)

Eligibility and Qualifications

Education

Graduate with at least a bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Management, Auditing, or related fields. Master's degree is an added value.

Technical Skills

Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office Suite Familiarity with accounting software (SAGE, QuickBooks, etc.) Basic knowledge of budgeting and NGO accounting principles Strong organizational and confidentiality skills

Other Attributes

Attention to detail, punctuality, and a strong sense of responsibility - Ability to work in a team and meet deadlines

Interest in public health and project management

Languages

Bilingual; working knowledge of English and French

Internship Duration and Benefits

• Duration: six months, with possibility of extension Start Date: 18 August 2025
• Allowance: Monthly stipend to cover transport and feeding

Selection Process

This internship is competitive. The selection process will include:

2. Practical assessment (e.g., accounting test or case study)
