What the program covers

TFMASA is a joint master's in aeronautical and space engineering. Coursework covers fluid mechanics, materials, structures, propulsion and energy, with a strong focus on reducing the environmental impact of aviation.

The study path is the same for everyone: first semester in Bordeaux, second in Louvain-la-Neuve, third in Cottbus. The fourth semester is devoted to the thesis, in a location of your choosing. Teaching is in English. On completion, you receive a joint degree from all three universities.

One point to plan for: the €1,400 allowance has to cover everything, including accommodation, food and your travel at the start of each semester. No separate flight ticket is provided.

Who can apply

  • Applicants from all countries, including Africa.
  • Hold a bachelor's degree of 180 ECTS credits in mechanical engineering, physics or a related field, obtained before the master's begins.
  • Have strong grades in mathematics, physics and engineering sciences.
  • Prove a good level of English (see the documents section).
  • Never have received an Erasmus Mundus master's or doctoral scholarship before.

The program also admits self-funded students. If TFMASA does not match your profile, read our article on the Erasmus Mundus MAPP scholarship in public policy.

Documents to prepare from Africa

  • A CV in Europass format. Your university or school's ranking must appear clearly on it.
  • A one-page motivation letter.
  • One or more recent recommendation letters, on letterhead, signed, with the author's contact details.
  • Your transcripts and diplomas, with an official or certified translation into English.
  • Proof of English: IELTS Academic 6.5 (no band below 6) or TOEFL iBT 93. The test must be less than 3 years old when the master's begins.
If you come from a French-speaking country, translation is usually the longest step. Order it now from a certified translator. The official site does not mention legalisation for the application itself. It may be requested later, for enrolment or the visa.

How to apply, step by step

  • Read the conditions on the official application page.
  • Create your account on the program's online portal.
  • Complete the form and upload all your documents.
  • Submit before 1 December 2026 at 10:00 a.m. Paris time. In Cameroon it will also be 10:00 a.m. In Dakar or Abidjan it will be 9:00 a.m.
You submit one single application for all three universities. No application is accepted by email or on paper. Applying through the official site is free.

Scholarships are awarded based on your ranking and on nationality rules: no more than 10% of scholarships go to any single country. Being admitted does not guarantee the scholarship.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Sending a standard CV instead of the Europass format, or leaving out your institution's ranking.
  • Writing a two-page motivation letter.
  • Attaching transcripts in French without a certified translation.
  • Using an English test that is too old.
  • Waiting until the last day: an internet outage can cost you the deadline.
  • Forgetting visas: you will in principle need a student visa for each country, starting with France. The university will guide you after admission.

Looking at other funded routes? Compare with the Erasmus Mundus EMMIR scholarship in migration studies, or with the Eiffel Excellence Scholarship in France if you would rather study in a single country. And if leaving is not an option right now, an online degree with a partial Unicaf scholarship is another route.
