What the programme covers
EMABG is a joint master's degree delivered by six universities: NMBU (Norway), BOKU (Austria), Wageningen (Netherlands), SLU (Sweden), Göttingen (Germany) and AgroParisTech (France). It trains specialists in animal genetics, genomics and breeding applied to biodiversity.
Every track begins at NMBU in Norway. The second year then takes place at one of the five other universities, depending on your chosen specialisation: conservation genomics (Wageningen), small population breeding (BOKU), bioinformatics (SLU), One Health and animal welfare (Göttingen) or integrative biology (AgroParisTech).
The scholarship covers participation costs and health insurance, and pays €1,400 per month intended for food, accommodation, travel and visa expenses.
Who can apply
- Holders of a bachelor's degree of at least 180 ECTS credits in animal science, or a related field with foundations in biostatistics, animal physiology, breeding, genetics and genomics.
- Applicants who have never received an Erasmus Mundus master's scholarship.
- Holders of a master's degree in a similar field cannot be admitted at Göttingen.
Required scores: IELTS Academic 7 (6.5 speaking) or TOEFL iBT 92 (23 speaking). Cambridge C1 Advanced and C2 Proficiency are also accepted. The test must be less than two years old at the deadline. Online IELTS is not accepted.
If your degree does not match this field, consider other Erasmus Mundus options such as the GrEnFIn scholarship in energy and finance or the TFMASA master's in aeronautical and space engineering. An online degree with a partial Unicaf scholarship is another possibility.
Documents to prepare from Africa
- Bachelor's degree certificate issued by the university, dated, signed and stamped, with its English translation in the same PDF.
- Transcripts for all years, with the grading scale and your average, combined into a single PDF. Remember the back of each page.
- Passport identity page and a recent photograph.
- Residence certificate in English or translated, issued less than 12 months before the deadline. Three options are accepted: an official residence certificate, a dated ID document showing your address (or accompanied by an electricity bill in your name), or a dated and signed attestation from your employer or institution.
- CV, preferably in Europass format.
- English certificate, if your country and chosen tracks require it.
- A letter stating your 3 preferred tracks, with your reasons.
- Two recommendation letters, written by two different people and mentioning your name.
- A motivation video of 1 to 2 minutes, in MP4, 50 MB maximum, titled only with your application number.
How to apply, step by step
- Create your account on the EMABG application platform.
- Upload all your documents in PDF. Only complete files are reviewed.
- Submit your video through the BOKUbox link shown on the procedure page.
- Send your complete file at least three weeks before the deadline, as the consortium recommends.

Mistakes to avoid
- Sending a generic motivation letter instead of the tracks letter.
- Reciting the website in your video, or having it written by an AI: the panel is scoring your personal motivation.
- Submitting a transcript without a date, signature or stamp: it will be judged invalid.
- Uploading several files for your transcripts instead of a single PDF.
- Presenting an English test that is too old or taken online, or providing none at all when you are a Francophone graduate.
- Choosing your tracks without checking the English requirement specific to each one.
- Leaving without a budget for the ticket and the first month.
