What the programme covers

CLMCE stands for Children's Literature, Media and Cultural Entrepreneurship. Coursework covers children's literature, media, publishing and the management of cultural industries. Teaching is in English.

The first semester takes place in Glasgow, the second at Aarhus University. For the third semester, you choose between Nantes (cultural management), Tilburg (translation and reception) or Wroclaw (children's cinema).

The monthly allowance also has to cover flights between universities, accommodation and visa costs, so budget accordingly. You can request three advances of 1,000 euros for visa and settling-in expenses, which are then deducted from your monthly payments.
The consortium offers up to 60 standard scholarships across four cohorts (2024-2029), with a maximum of 6 scholarship holders per nationality, and up to 30 additional scholarships reserved for targeted regions including sub-Saharan Africa. No separate application is required for these targeted scholarships.

Who can apply

  • Hold a Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) with a grade equivalent to a UK 2:1, in an accepted discipline: English or languages, literature, history, film and media, childhood studies, anthropology, sociology, library science, arts or education.
  • Final-year students may apply, provided they graduate before the start of the programme.
  • Prove your English level: IELTS Academic 6.5 minimum with no band below 6.0, or an equivalent TOEFL iBT score.
  • Never have received an Erasmus Mundus Master's scholarship before.

If your degree falls outside these disciplines, compare other funded routes such as the Erasmus Mundus Master's in Public Policy (MAPP), which accepts a broader range of social science backgrounds, or an online degree with a partial Unicaf scholarship.

Documents to prepare from Africa

  • The 2027-2029 scholarship form (a Word file to complete, then convert to PDF).
  • Your degree certificates and transcripts in the original language, with official English translations.
  • Two reference letters: one academic, and one either academic or professional.
  • An up-to-date CV and the identity page of your passport.
  • Your IELTS or TOEFL certificate.
Letters must be less than 24 months old, on headed paper or bearing a stamp, and signed by hand or digitally. A typed name in place of a signature is rejected. A referee who wishes to send their letter confidentially must use a professional email address, never a Gmail or Yahoo address.

If you are offered a scholarship, you will need to prove your residence with a certificate issued by your local council and a statement from your employer or institution.

How to apply, step by step

  • Create your account on the University of Glasgow application portal.
  • Select the CLMCE programme and the September 2027 intake. Write your name and date of birth exactly as they appear on your passport.
  • Fill in your education and employment history, without naming your referees in the form.
  • Rank the three third-semester options from 1 to 3. Your first choice is not guaranteed.
  • Upload all documents. You have 42 days after opening your application, without exceeding the deadline.

  • Using a name that differs, even by a single letter, from the one on your passport.
